For this project there were several difficult site constraints. First of all, this is a block that had been subdivided from a larger, very well established block, and therefore had fantastic advanced trees and garden elements that needed to be retained. It meant threading the house in between all the trees. Secondly the only spot where the house could fit was also quite a sloping spot. In spite of these challenges, the design solution nestles into the site beautifully. With a gently sloping and curved driveway winding in from the road, the traditionally designed home has a minimal footprint on the ground, with only one bedroom on the ground floor. The garage is turned away from the road to minimise its impact on the design. The shady deck with shared access from both the lounge room and master bedroom feels like a treehouse platform, with lovely dappled sunlight and glimpsed views through the trees. A charming solution to a difficult site, the day it was completed it seemed as if it was always there!
