This was our first project involving a relocated cottage. The existing weatherboard house was an ‘L’ shape, and sat on brick piers, however the room at the junction of the two legs was on a concrete slab. As this portion could not be moved, it was demolished and the remaining two legs cut into three pieces. It was moved from Burradoo to its new home in Sutton Forest with three trips at 3am. Once on the new site, the three pieces were joined together, now in a straight line and hovered over their new concrete footings so that the new brick piers and perimeter wall could be built up to it. The house was then lowered onto the footings and the large steel beams were removed. There followed a complete internal renovation with a new bathroom and laundry, new floorcoverings and window coverings throughout and new paint finishes. Two new verandahs were constructed front and back and the entire exterior painted. The result is a charming two bedroom cottage now available for self contained accommodation.
